While TTC (trying to conceive) I charted each cycle to help understand my body and determine the best days to try to conceive. I did so because my body had always been very irregular and I needed to know when I was most fertile.
The morning of January 20, 2010, when I was at what I thought was the end of my cycle and the beginning of a new one, I almost did a pregnancy test before leaving for work. But I resisted because I didn't want to see the BFN (big fat negative) one more time. However, my curiosity still had the better of me and I stuck the test in my purse to take with me just in case I changed my mind.
A couple hours after settling into work, I couldn't stand it any more. Yes - I actually tested in the ladies room at work!! I still find it funny that I did it there. But while staring at it and expecting to see the blank white stare right back at me, it immediately changed and that beautiful line showed up. I couldn't believe it.
Shaking, I tried to compose my excitement and took myself and the test back to my desk. Trying to be sneaky, I took a picture of the stick with my cell phone to record this momentous event. I couldn't stop staring at it!
The next crazy thing about the day was that Andy randomly called me to see if I wanted to meet for lunch. I met him at O'Charley's and I was so excited. I just wanted to scream it - I'M PREGNANT! But I actually restrained myself and didn't tell him yet. I held back because I had envisioned in my mind that I wanted to tell him while at home and give him a gift. Later, Andy could not believe that I didn't tell him while having lunch.
When I got home, I had Andy's present all ready for him. I waited until a good moment and I handed him a gift bag. The gift included two Daddy books and a digital pregnancy test that said the word "pregnant". At first he thought he was opening a gift bag of cross word puzzles and a big pen or a highlighter.
When he actually realized what he was seeing, he said "Really? Really? Is this for real?". He was shocked. He was in so much shock that he wanted me to take another test. So I did, and that line showed up yet for a third time.
So it was for real. We were going to be parents. And we looked forward to God's blessing in the gift of getting to be parents.
So January 20, 2010 will forever remain in my memory as the day that we found out we would be parents.
